Markko Martin has won the Mad Croc Rally Estonia in the car he says that is his favourite, the Ford Focus WRC03.
Martin proved that he has lost none of his skill by winning all 12 stages and by taking the win by 2 mins 50.3 secs.Martin was navigated by Kristo Kraag.
"It was nice, nice weather, good roads, good jumps and no big dramas. It was nice to be back but it was difficult driving with pacenotes again and I would have got a bigger buzz if I’d been able to lean on the tyres some more. But that was not easy because running first on the road meant it was very slippery with a big lack of grip, almost slow motion in some places.” said Martin.
In second was Martin's protege Ott Tanak in a Subaru Impreza Gp.N, run by Martin's MM Motorsport firm.
Martin's last rally was the Richard Burns Memorial stages in 2008 in a Subaru Impreza WRC2008, navigated by Burns former navigator Robert Reid. At the time, Martin was Subaru's test driver, but lost this position when SWRT withdrew from WRC competition.
MM Motorsport was running Martin's Focus and Tanak's Impreza, as well as Georg Gross' Ford Focus WRC, Egon Kaur's Subaru Impreza and Aigar Pars' Subaru Impreza.
“It was crazy at times because I also needed to have some focus on running my own team. Without some small technical issues we could have got more cars in the top five, possibly all of them.”
