Subaru to run works backed cars in IRC

Subaru have confirmed that they will enter two Impreza WRX STi's on six events in this year's Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

The Impreza's will conform to the new R4 specification, which was brought about to close the gap between the Group N and S2000 cars. The R4 cars feature uprated suspension, better engine performance, enhanced cooling and a lower overall weight.

Subaru have selected two highly experienced drivers in Toshi Arai and Fumio Nutahara to head the new campaign. Arai, a double P-WRC Champion, made his IRC début on last years Geko Ypres Rally and Nutahara, multiple P-WRC event winner, débuted on last year's Barum Czech Rally Zlín. Both drivers will run on Yokohama tyres.

Their calendars will comprise of:
Tour de Corse (Arai only)
Sata Rally Acores
Barum Czech Rally Zlín (Nutahara only)
Mecsek Rally (Arai only)
Rally of Scotland
Cyprus Rally (Arai only)

Subaru are no strangers to the IRC, however. They registered as a manufacturer in 2010, and again in 2011. They also started up the Subaru Individual Award, which was awarded to the highest placed Subaru mounted driver on selected rallies.
