Arguably the closest rallying has ever got to F1. The Lancia Delta S4 was a sucessor to the Lancia 037 Rallye, a 2WD, 325BHP, supercharged rocket. The S4 blew the 037 away. Comprising of 4WD, 600BHP, a supercharger and a turbo, carbon fibre and race-spec slick tyres for tarmac, the S4 was like nothing the world of rallying had ever seen. Able to accelerate from 0-60 in around 3 seconds on gravel, the car became the stuff of legend, even though it only got one year to prove itself. It was banned, along with all the other Group B machines, after Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto were killed on the Tour de Corse in 1986.
Truly a monster of a car.
