El Matador is to make a one-off appearance at Rally Deutchland. Carlos Sainz is rumored to be driving a rally prepared VW Scriocco as 00 car on the opening day of the event.
The double World Champion is to attend a promotional event that Volkswagen are staging to promote the all-new VW Race Touareg.
“It’s a promotional thing, but it’s not confirmed. Maybe I will drive for the opening day in a zero car. There is also a presentation of the Volkswagen Touareg which I will be there for. It would be nice to see some of the World Rally Championship again, but nothing is confirmed yet.” he said.
Since his retirement at the end of 2004, he made one-off appearances at the Rally of Turkey and the Acropolis Rally. He has also won the Dakar Rally this year after a nail-biting finish after fighting Nasser Al-Aityah to the finish.
Aside from competing himself, he is watching over the circuit racing career of his son, Carlos jr. Carlos jr. claimed his first win in the Formula BMW Europe class at the F1 support race at Silverstone.
