No Alén in Finland

Anton Alén, son of 6-times Rally Finland winner Markku, won't be competing on the Neste Oil Rally Finland due to problems sourcing a car for the event.

Problems in finalising the drive lead to not enough time being left for sourcing a gravel spec Ford Fiesta S2000, so Alén will have to sit out this years event.

After not driving for so long, it obviously comes as a big disappointment to find out that we can’t do Rally Finland. But we’ve faced setbacks like this in the past, so we’re not giving up. I’m going to try and get out again on the WRC or IRC this year, and it would certainly be nice to do one of the gravel events in Britain.” he said.

Alén was a former works Fiat driver (incidently, so was his Dad) in the IRC, with whom he won the 2007 edition of Rally Russia. When the Italian car manufacturer withdrew from the IRC to concentrate on the ERC, they dropped Alén from the team, so he has since been out of a drive.

After announcing that he would not be competing on the Neste Oil Rally Finland, Alén said that he would be competing on other events in the WRC or IRC, possibly Wales or Scotland.
